You are very correct. MS is MS, and Apple is Apple. MS doesn't desire iCloud to sync with Win10. They both desire you (us) to switch completely to their domains.  It is a super pain-in-the-****.  I use a Windows 10 desktop at abode for all  my photos storage and manipulation. My wife and I both use iPhones which volition never give up. Google and Amazon are pushing the aforementioned garbage. They want information technology all...every concluding bit.  All I desire is for my iCloud Photos to sync with the local Windows 10 drive/folder, and it appears to be to much of a lift.  What you said most the MS tech contributors is a scrap harsh. I don't know if they are "tech morons" or not, but they certainly tend to push the corporate policy.  It'south no improve with Amazon or Google. My tech problems with Apple or by and large resolvable quickly.

Hello All

I also had the trouble with iCloud not syncing files on Windows 10.  My iOS devices were syncronising as expected.  In my example I'one thousand also running OneDrive and had mapped some of my Windows default folders to iCloud (Desktop, Music, Pictures).

I managed to fix the problem (with help from a post from Dahark) as follows ....

ane. Temporarily disable OneDrive (correct-click on OneDrive in the System Tray and select Pause Syncing for 2 hours);

2. Modify registry settings every bit follows:

    - Right-click the Windows logo and so click Run.

    - Type regedit.exe and press Enter. If User Business relationship Control window pops up, click Yes.

    - In Registry Editor, browse to the post-obit path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

In the Registry, change these folder locations back to their Windows defaults:

Parameter Value

Desktop %USERPROFILE%\Desktop

Favorites %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

My Music %USERPROFILE%\Music

My Pictures %USERPROFILE%\Pictures

My Video %USERPROFILE%\Videos

Personal %USERPROFILE%\Documents

3.  Restart Windows.

Later on the restart, iCloud starts to re-sync.

Chris O is right.  My registry files were fine withal this seems to be beingness caused by a conflict with OneDrive.  I either employ Google Drive or iCloud Drive and then OneDrive isn't fifty-fifty a necessity for me.  I simply uninstalled OneDrive and restarted.  I then logged out and back into iCloud and my files synced properly.
